Andorra goalkeeper Jesús Owono was involved in a collision with Tenerife forward Jesús de Miguel during a second-division match on Monday. De Miguel suffered a cardiorespiratory arrest on the field, his neurological condition worsened overnight, and his death was confirmed on Tuesday morning.

The incident occurred in stoppage time. Spanish media reports say Owono has been emotionally affected and is receiving support from his club. He was seen crying and praying in the dressing room after the match, and was reportedly met with chants calling him a “murderer” as he left the field. He later deactivated his Instagram account after receiving aggressive comments online.

Owono, whose full name is Jesús Lázaro Ferrer Owono Ngua Akeng, was born in Bata, Equatorial Guinea, on March 1, 2001. He moved to Spain with his family as a child and grew up in San Sebastián. He began playing in Antiguoko’s youth setup before joining Real Sociedad at 12. Four years later, he moved to Alavés, progressing through the club’s youth teams before making his first-division debut against Real Sociedad in 2022.

Owono joined Andorra on loan last season. In the European summer of 2026, the club signed him to a two-year contract with an option for two additional years. He had recently established himself as the team’s starting goalkeeper under coach Carles Manso.

He has represented Equatorial Guinea’s senior national team since 2019, including in international friendlies and the Africa Cup of Nations. Away from football, he is a Marvel fan and collects figures from the franchise. He also listens to Afrobeat and classical music, including Beethoven, which he uses to study and concentrate.
