River-PI is reorganizing its football department ahead of the 2027 season, following promotion to the top tier of the Piauí State Championship and the appointment of Gerson Gusmão as coach for next year. Márcio Ferreira has joined as football manager, working alongside executive Miguel Júnior under a clearer division of responsibilities.
Ferreira will oversee logistics, the club’s day-to-day operations and administrative support, while also assisting with negotiations involving players and coaching staff. Júnior will focus on building the squad, sporting planning and negotiations, with the new structure intended to give him more time for strategic decisions without reducing his authority.
Major negotiations are expected to be reviewed collectively by the club’s leadership, including Júnior, Ferreira, president Jairo Cavalcante and other officials.
The first major decision under the reorganization was choosing Gusmão to lead River-PI in 2027. He previously won the Piauí state title with the club in 2023 and is set to return as River-PI prepares to compete in the state’s top division after winning promotion from the 2026 Série B.
The club’s immediate priority is assembling the squad and retaining some of the players from its promotion campaign. River-PI expects Gusmão to arrive in Teresina on November 25, with preseason scheduled to begin on November 30. The state championship is expected to start on January 9, giving the team about 40 days to prepare.
Gusmão has not yet signed a pre-contract and has not officially commented on the appointment while the paperwork remains incomplete. River-PI’s only scheduled official competition for 2027 is the Piauí State Championship.
