Internacional has once again used five different goalkeepers in the same season. The milestone was reached after Kauan Jesus took over as the starter, marking the first time since 2016 that the club has relied on five players in the position.
In 2016, all five goalkeepers appeared in the Brasileirão. Danilo Fernandes led the team with 27 matches, while Alisson, Jacsson, Muriel and Marcelo Lomba also played. That season ended with Internacional’s relegation, although the current situation does not establish a direct connection between the two campaigns.
The rotation among goalkeepers has also occurred at other Brazilian clubs. Fortaleza used five in 2025, while Botafogo had already reached the same number before the 24th round of the current season.
Since 2016, Internacional has averaged three goalkeepers per season. The lowest turnover came in 2022, when Daniel and Keiller shared playing time across the four competitions contested by the club.
The 2026 campaign began with Anthoni as the starter. Ivan played in the third round of the state championship, his only appearance for Internacional before moving to Remo. Rochet then returned to the team and was the main goalkeeper during the early stages of the Brasileirão and the decisive matches of the state competition.
After being called up for World Cup qualifying matches in March, Rochet made four more appearances. He has not played for Internacional since May 12 because of a series of physical problems, which has also made a possible contract renewal more difficult.
Internacional signed Matheus Cunha during the mid-year transfer window, but he did not secure the position. After a series of defensive mistakes, including the latest one in the defeat by Mirassol, he was sent off and removed from the team. With Anthoni injured and Cunha unavailable, the club turned to Kauan Jesus.
Kauan Jesus is set to make his third consecutive start against Coritiba at the Beira-Rio. A victory would temporarily take Internacional out of the relegation zone and bring the Paraná club further into the fight against relegation.
Across Internacional’s 51 matches this year, Anthoni has played 20, Rochet 17, Matheus Cunha 12, Kauan Jesus three and Ivan one.
