Marcos Victor is enjoying his longest run as a starter for Bahia in this Brasileirão. The defender began the 3–2 victory over São Paulo, the fourth consecutive league match in which he has been named in the starting lineup, and scored his first goal for the club.
The No. 44 also provided an assist in the match, completing a decisive performance. He later celebrated the result and apologized to Bahia supporters for publishing a photo highlighting his meeting with Neymar, posted hours after the Santos forward had offended Rodrigo Nestor during the 32nd round of the Campeonato Brasileiro.
Marcos Victor’s current run began with 59 minutes in Bahia’s 1–0 win over Mirassol in the 30th round. He then played 65 minutes in the 3–0 defeat by Flamengo, 79 minutes in the 1–1 draw with Santos and the full 90 minutes against São Paulo, when he scored and assisted.
The defender was Bahia’s first signing of the club’s “City era,” arriving in December 2022. However, he has made only 34 appearances across four seasons with the team, recording two assists and one goal before his latest contribution.
His involvement increased during the second half of 2026, taking his total to 16 appearances in the season. The improvement followed a difficult period that included a ligament injury to his right knee, surgery and loan spells at Athletico-PR in 2024, Ceará in 2025 and Portugal’s Santa Clara in 2026.
Bahia recalled Marcos Victor from Santa Clara before he had completed a month in Portugal after centre-backs David Duarte and Kanu suffered injuries in February. Gabriel Xavier’s loan departure in June also helped create more opportunities for him.
The departure of Gilberto to Athletico-PR opened another route into the team, with Marcos Victor also being used at right-back. His increased involvement led Bahia to extend his contract by two years, keeping him at the club until the end of the 2029 season.
His next opportunity to build on this spell comes against Cruzeiro on Thursday at 9:30 p.m. Brasília time at Mineirão, in the 34th round of the Brasileirão.
