Brazilian referee Pablo Ramon Gonçalves Pinheiro has been appointed by CONMEBOL to work in two Argentina friendlies in November. A member of the VAR/FIFA officiating group, he will be the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) for the match against Uruguay and will serve as assistant video referee (AVAR) against Costa Rica.
Argentina will face Uruguay on November 13 in Buenos Aires. Four days later, on November 17, the team will play Costa Rica in Córdoba.
The appointments were made after a request from the Argentine Football Association to CONMEBOL. The officiating crew will consist entirely of Brazilians. Rodrigo Guarizo will join Pablo Ramon on VAR duties, while Flávio de Souza and Bruno Arleu will be the central referees. Nailton de Souza and Luanderson Lima were appointed as assistant referees.
In another development involving referees from Rio Grande do Norte, Flávio Gomes Barroca was promoted by the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) to the AVAR Master category. He reached 150 matches as an assistant video referee in Brazil’s Serie A.
The Master category is the highest level in the CBF’s refereeing structure. Barroca said the promotion was a recognition of more than two decades of work in Brazilian refereeing. As an assistant referee, he has worked in finals of the Brazilian Championship and the Copa do Nordeste, as well as in the Campeonato Potiguar.
