Red Bull Bragantino defeated Santos 2-1 on Monday in the 24th round of the Brasileirão, moving above their opponents in the standings. Rodinei scored an own goal and Wallace Yan netted for Bragantino, while Coutinho scored for Santos.
Lucas Barbosa said the victory reflected the team’s recent improvement after a spell of strong work without results. Bragantino have now gone six matches unbeaten, he said, adding that the team should turn its attention to the Libertadores.
The win lifted Bragantino to eighth place with 47 points. Athletico-PR are fifth and occupy the first qualifying position for the Libertadores preliminary round, with 54 points and a game in hand. The number of places available for the continental competition could change depending on the winners of the Libertadores and Copa do Brasil.
Bragantino will have two weeks without a match before visiting Vitória at Barradão on November 19 at 7:30 p.m.
