A lottery ticket bought in Rondonópolis won R$324,898,791.61 in the Mega-Sena, the largest prize in the history of a regular draw. União Esporte Clube responded with a light-hearted appeal on social media, inviting the city’s newest millionaire to donate part of the winnings to the club via Pix.
Under the headline “Investigation alert: where is Rondonópolis’ millionaire?”, the club joked that it had searched around town and checked its bank statements several times without finding the winner. It then asked the person to share some of the prize to help the team.
“If you were the lucky one who matched the winning numbers, you don’t need to hide. União welcomes a friendly Pix donation to strengthen the squad and save our year,” the club wrote. The accompanying post congratulated the winner and listed diretoria@uniaoesporteclube.com.br as the Pix key.
The appeal comes as União faces financial difficulties. Club officials have told local media that economic problems have put the team’s participation in the 2027 Mato-grossense Championship in doubt. The club has also faced reports of delayed wages and sought support from local business owners to fund its activities.
On the field, União is playing in the Copa FMF semifinal. It lost the first leg 3-0 to Cuiabá and needs to overturn the deficit in the return match, scheduled for Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Arena Pantanal.
