Tenerife striker Jesús de Miguel died on Tuesday after a collision with Andorra/">FC Andorra goalkeeper Jesús Owono during a second-division match in Spain. The club said De Miguel died at 8 a.m. local time at Nuestra Señora de Candelaria University Hospital.

The 30-year-old was injured late in Monday’s game at Tenerife’s Heliodoro Rodríguez López Stadium. In stoppage time, he ran toward a long ball as Owono came out of his area to clear it, and the two collided. De Miguel fell motionless, prompting players from both teams to call for medical staff. Owono was shown a straight red card.

De Miguel remained unconscious and suffered cardiac arrest, but emergency responders revived him at the scene. Tenerife later reported that his neurological condition had worsened. He was taken from the stadium by ambulance and remained in hospital until his death was confirmed.

The match was permanently suspended in the 108th minute to allow medical staff to treat De Miguel. Tenerife said it was deeply saddened by his death and expressed solidarity with his family, friends and supporters.
