Tenerife striker Jesús de Miguel’s neurological condition has worsened following a serious collision during Monday’s match against Andorra in Spain’s second division, the club said early Tuesday. De Miguel remains in hospital after the incident.

The club said in a statement that the player’s medical condition had deteriorated neurologically and that it would share further information in the coming hours.

De Miguel suffered cardiac arrest late in the match after colliding with Andorra goalkeeper Jesús Owono while both players challenged for the ball. He received treatment on the pitch before being taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital.

According to Tenerife’s initial medical update, De Miguel regained a pulse after cardiopulmonary resuscitation during the ambulance journey. The club said at the time that he was breathing on his own but remained unconscious.
