Four teams are level on 55 points with two rounds remaining in Brazil’s Série B, leaving one place in the G-6 up for grabs. CRB, Goiás, Sport and Atlético-GO are all in contention after the latest results tightened the race.
Sport missed the chance to improve its position, drawing 1-1 with Botafogo-SP. Goiás, meanwhile, beat CRB 2-1, taking points from a direct rival while bringing itself firmly into the contest. The result also set up a meeting between Goiás and Sport at Ilha do Retiro in the final round.
Atlético-GO’s 0-0 draw with Fortaleza left the team on 55 points. Sport currently has the edge in a goals-scored tiebreak, with 48 compared with Atlético-GO’s 42. Náutico’s 1-0 win over Avaí did not directly benefit Sport, but it ensured Náutico would avoid relegation before facing CRB.
Sport’s route is clear: it must beat Operário-PR in the next round and Goiás in the final round. Six points would take the team to 61, but that may not be enough if CRB wins both of its remaining matches against Náutico and Ceará. CRB currently leads Sport on wins, 16 to 14, and would keep that advantage if both sides won twice.
Goiás can reach 58 points by beating Ponte Preta before its match against Sport. Depending on CRB’s results, the final-round meeting could decide a G-6 place. Atlético-GO also has a path to 61 points if it beats Athletic and Cuiabá, but Sport’s current advantage in goals scored means Atlético-GO would need to make up the six-goal gap across its remaining games.
