Santos finished Monday’s 2-1 defeat to Red Bull Bragantino protesting that a penalty should have been awarded to Rony late in the match. PC Oliveira, a refereeing commentator for Grupo Globo, said referee Edina Alves Batista made a mistake by not calling a foul on the Santos forward.
The incident came in the 35th minute of the second half. Rafael Gonzaga sent the ball toward Rony, who contested for space with Bragantino defender Ryan Augusto and fell inside the penalty area. Santos players appealed, but VAR did not recommend that the referee review the play.
The result left Bragantino and Santos level on 47 points. Bragantino moved above its opponent on tiebreakers to take eighth place, while Santos dropped to ninth.
The league will pause for the international break. Santos are next scheduled to visit Coritiba on November 18, while Bragantino will travel to face Vitória on November 19.
