Sergipe has officially confirmed Paulo Massaro as its new head coach for the 2027 season. The appointment comes after a period of anticipation, with Massaro selected to lead the club, known as the Gipão, through a demanding schedule filled with multiple challenges.
Massaro, a 44-year-old native of Ribeirão Preto in São Paulo state, brings extensive experience to the role. His career includes managing clubs such as Santa Cruz-PE, Joinville-SC, and CRAC-GO, alongside serving on the technical staff of Guarani de Campinas. He previously worked within Sergipano football, coaching Confiança in 2024. During his nine-game tenure with the Azulino side, he secured six wins, one draw, and two losses, leaving the team at the top of the league table. However, his departure was finalized following an early elimination against Murici in the Copa do Brasil.
A significant highlight of Massaro's recent career occurred during the current season with Operário-MS, where he guided the team to the third phase of the Copa do Brasil. Under his command, the squad achieved a 15-match unbeaten run consisting of nine victories and six draws, suffering only one defeat across 16 total matches.
Looking ahead to the 2027 campaign, Sergipe faces a full calendar with ambitious objectives. The club aims to secure back-to-back state championships while targeting promotion to the Campeonato Brasileiro Série D. Additionally, the team will compete in both the Copa do Brasil and the Copa do Nordeste.
The current roster assembled for the 2027 season includes goalkeeper Alan Alves; defenders Pedro Belém, Rafael Luiz, Tony Maraial, Dudu, João Lucas, Matheus Henrique, Rodolfo Mol, and Victor Massaia; midfielders Renan Metz, Danilo Farias, Gustavo Tonoli, Kaio Wilker, Gustavo Petrocelli, Mauro Jr, and Juan Xavier; and forwards Phelippe Costa, Mateus Gonçalves, Galeguinho, Pedrinho, Thiago Santos, and Johnatan Cardoso.
