Goiás coach Mozart praised his players’ resilience after their 2-1 win over CRB, saying 14 cases of illness affected the squad during the week. He said six players who started the match had been ill, including Lucas Lima, Lucas Ribeiro, Nicolas, Kadu Sousa and Felipe Clemente.
Mozart said some players received fluids during what he described as a difficult week, and credited the team’s spirit for overcoming the situation. He added that Goiás were ready for the closing stretch of the campaign.
The result lifted Goiás to 55 points, level with CRB, who occupy sixth place. Goiás are behind them on goal difference. The team has taken 13 points from its last 15, and Mozart said the side was improving at the right time.
Goiás host Ponte Preta at the Serrinha on Sunday at 19:15. Lucas Rodrigues and Luisão will miss the match through suspension after receiving their third yellow cards.
