Around 800 tons of Formula 1 equipment have arrived in Brazil for the São Paulo Grand Prix, with the cargo landing at Viracopos Airport in Campinas. Interlagos, officially known as the José Carlos Pace Autodrome, will host the championship’s 20th round from November 6 to 8.
The equipment was flown from Mexico on nine Boeing aircraft. The unloading and transport operation began on October 28 and is expected to conclude in the early hours between November 3 and 4, when the final trucks are due to reach the circuit.
At least 100 airport workers and nearly 50 staff from the company handling the transfer to Interlagos are involved. More than 45 trucks are travelling in convoys. After the São Paulo event, the equipment will leave Brazil through Viracopos on flights to the United States for the Las Vegas Grand Prix, scheduled for November 19-22. This is the airport’s 25th consecutive operation to handle Formula 1 equipment arriving in and departing from the country.
The São Paulo weekend will be the first chance for Mercedes driver Kimi Antonelli to celebrate his title in Brazil after becoming Formula 1’s youngest champion at 20, according to the report. Brazilian drivers Gabriel Bortoleto and Rafael Câmara are also among the attractions: Bortoleto will race at home for the second time, while Câmara is set to make his Formula 1 debut at the event as a Haas driver.
